visit in Soganli Valley

 visit in Soganli Valley:

Soganli Valley, also formerly known as Soandos, is a hidden gem located in the southeastern region of Cappadocia, Turkey . This valley boasts a rich history and stunning natural beauty, making it a perfect destination for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Rock-cut churches and monasteries: Carved into the soft volcanic tuff rock that characterizes the Cappadocian landscape, these churches and monasteries date back to the Byzantine period (9th to 13th centuries AD). Some of the most notable ones include the Karabas Church, the Yilanli Church (Snake Church), and the Kubbeli Church (Domed Church). These churches are adorned with frescoes depicting scenes from the Bible and the lives of saints.

  • Peaceful atmosphere: Unlike the more touristy Goreme, Soganli Valley offers a tranquil escape. With fewer crowds, you can truly appreciate the serenity of the valley and immerse yourself in its history.
  • Traditional village life: A small village called Aşağı Soğanlı (Lower Soğanlı) sits at the southeastern end of the valley. Here, you can witness traditional Turkish village life and interact with the locals. You might even come across some women selling handmade dolls, a great way to support the community.
  • Hiking and nature: The valley offers scenic hiking trails that allow you to explore the unique rock formations and admire the panoramic views.

While Soganli Valley may require a bit more effort to reach compared to other Cappadocian sites, the lack of crowds and the opportunity to experience a more authentic slice of Cappadocia make it well worth the visit.
